This East Coast (US) Aluminum Manufacturer initially replaced their old Air Slides with the Vortex Aero-Slide in a phase one project done in 2022. They came back to Vortex for the phase 2 project for additional Aero-Slides to replace more of their old outdated equipment.

What is Alumina/Bauxite Powder and how is it used to manufacture Aluminum?

Alumina, also known as aluminum oxide (Al2O3), is a key ingredient in the production of aluminum. The process begins with the extraction of bauxite ore, which is then refined through the Bayer process to yield alumina.

The Bayer process involves several stages, including the digestion of bauxite in a hot solution of sodium hydroxide, clarification to remove solid waste, precipitation to recover alumina trihydrate, and finally calcination to produce pure alumina. This process has been in use for over a century and remains the most common method for producing alumina from bauxite.

Once alumina has been produced, it is used in the Hall-Heroult process to manufacture aluminum. This process involves dissolving the alumina in molten cryolite and then applying a strong electrical current. The electricity causes the alumina to break down into its component elements, one of which is aluminum.

Aluminum is an essential material in today's world due to its unique properties and wide range of applications. It's a lightweight, durable, and corrosion-resistant metal that has excellent thermal and electrical conductivity. These qualities make it ideal for use in various industries, including transportation, construction, electronics, and packaging. Aluminum's recyclability also contributes to its importance, as it can be recycled without losing its quality, making it a sustainable choice in the face of growing environmental concerns. Furthermore, in the energy sector, aluminum is crucial in the production of solar panels and wind turbines, contributing to the transition towards renewable energy sources. Thus, aluminum plays a significant role in both our everyday lives and the broader global economy.

Out with the Old. In with the New.

Vortex sales reps worked with this customer to replace the old worn out Air slides that they have in their facility with State of the Art Vortex Aero-Slides that were custom engineered to meet the customers specific needs.

Improved clean outs and inspection ports were a must have for this customer on their new Aero-Slides.

Pictured below are some of the completed sections of Aero-Slide. In the photos you can see the viewing window provided on the side of the Aero-Side which allows for easy viewing of material flow.

The quick access ports on top of the Aero-Slide allows for easy access to the internal areas.
