Vortex, a solids and bulk handling components company, is pleased to announce its Loading Spouts are now certified to ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU in the European Union (EU). Vortex Loading Spouts are now rated for Zone 20 (internal) & Zone 21 (external) environments. Because ATEX certification is required for equipment sold through the EU, this allows Vortex to broaden its international reach and enter an established European market for loading spouts, chutes and bellows. Vortex Loading Spouts are now compliant for use in even the most hazardous dry material handling applications, as Zones 20 & 21 are the highest ATEX ratings to achieve. This makes Vortex Loading Spouts a viable option across industries.

The Notified Body sourced to assist Vortex in gaining ATEX certification was the UK-based firm SGS Baseefa. The certification process took nearly one year to complete. SGS Baseefa was responsible for reviewing loading spout drawings and product standards, material testing and product performance, to ensure Vortex Loading Spouts are mechanically and electrically compliant with ATEX Directive guidelines.

In addition, all Vortex Quantum Series and Titan Series slide gates and diverter valves are also ATEX-certified, making Vortex one of the safest sourcing options for industrial equipment used in hazardous manufacturing environments.

ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU: What it is

ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU was put into effect on 29 March, 2014. It is a revised law requiring equipment manufacturers to design and construct equipment in a way that ensures a static dissipative path for material flow. The goal of this law is to reduce ignition sources, so that equipment can be used in potentially explosive environments.

This ATEX Directive is complemented by the workplace safety law, ATEX Directive 99/92/EC. Collectively, their purpose is to ensure employee safety and protection when manufacturing in hazardous environments.
