Application:
Residents in high rise apartment blocks are able to dispose of domestic waste through vertical discharge chutes and ongoing transportation of waste via airflow using an underground network of pipes to a receiving station some distance away. This allows a reduction of waste collection vehicle movements and the associated carbon emissions by up to 90 percent.

Challenge:

The client had a need to separate waste materials into three streams with quick actuation and without using a conventional flap type diverter which can be problematic on this particular application.

Materials handled included organic food waste, mixed dry recycling waste and residual waste.

Results:

The Vortex Pivoting Chute Diverter was identified as the ideal valve.

The Pivoting Chute Diverter is designed to handle abrasive materials in gravity flow applications. The diverter body houses an internal chute that is constructed of abrasion-resistant metal or lined with optional material that offers superior wear resistance. Inspection, maintenance, or repairs to the diverter may be performed from the front access panel – without removing the diverter from service. The Pivoting Chute Diverter is dust-tight to atmosphere, may be shifted through material flow and is available in 2-way and 3-way configurations.

The client specifically liked the access panel, which not only allows access for inspection and cleaning, but all the internal parts of the diverter can be removed and replaced via this access panel, which means the diverter valve can be maintained in situ, minimizing plant downtime.

Features:

  • Access panel allowing quick access to the interior of the diverter for inspection, cleaning or maintenance purposes.
  • Unrestricted material flow through the diverter.
  • Available to divert through flowing or a standing column of material.
  • Dust tight to atmosphere.
  • Abrasion resistant design.
