Results:

This Quantum Series Orifice Gate includes many optional features that are typical in food-grade applications. The valve is constructed from 304 stainless steel for contamination purposes, in order to protect against the corrosive properties of salt.

A special service inlet was added to control material flow at the center of the valve. This creates a dead pocket between the blade and inlet, to further prevent fine materials from packing in the valve body and seals.

The valve’s blade was electropolished to fill grooves on the blade’s surface. This prevents fine materials from collecting in blade grooves, which could otherwise lead to spoilage and sanitation concerns. To address sticky materials, electropolishing also allows for regular valve wash-downs.

PET pressure plates were substituted for the standard Nylon pressure plates because PET is better suited for wash-down. When subject to moisture, Nylon seals tend to swell and cause blade actuation issues.

A pneumatic air cylinder with a magnetic piston was supplied to accommodate magnetic reed switches. Magnetic reed switches provide feedback on whether the air cylinder is extended or retracted. Magnetic reed switches can be used alongside proximity switches to provide blade position feedback for valve metering assemblies.
