Published
Client:
Small plastics company
Quantity:
Size:
6 in | 150 mm) Weight: 50 lb | 25 kg
Application:
Find a cost-effective solution that better seals dust, for installation in a new plastics operation.

Features:

  • Gate body constructed from aluminum.
  • Blade & other material contact areas constructed from 304 stainless steel.
  • Electropolished blade.
  • Pressure plates constructed from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polymer. Pressure plates are “live loaded” with compressed silicone rubber backing.

Results:

The client sourced a Vortex Orifice Gate for use on a carbon black extrusion line. In order to create plastic pellet, the client fills a bag dump station with carbon black. Once the bag dump station is filled, the lid is closed to seal off the station. The carbon black is then mixed into other plastic ingredients and heat is applied to form a plastics mixture. Once finished, the mixture is fed through an extrusion line using the Orifice Gate, which is situated below the bag dump station.

Now installed for nearly two years, the Orifice Gate has not required any maintenance. This is especially impressive due to the difficult nature of handling carbon black. By collecting data application information, Vortex was able to establish a close relationship with the customer and analyze the full scope of their process needs. The Orifice Gate is low profile, cost-effective, and was the best-fit option for this customer’s application – not just a quick solution.
